Dean Gibbons Appears as Keynote Speaker in Fuzhou, China
SCS Dean Thomas F. Gibbons was the keynote speaker at the 2013 Cross-strait Lifelong Learning Centennial Summit in Fuzhou, the largest city in China's Fujian province. The goal of the two-day conference — hosted by the Fujian Association for Lifelong Education for All; The National Association of Vocational Education of China, Fujian; and Taiwan’s Adult and Lifelong Education Association — is to engage international academic leaders in the field and to promote the global importance of adult and lifelong learning education. Gibbons explored how the technology and innovation of Open Educational Resources and, specifically, Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) have increased access to the world’s greatest universities and colleges and impacted how learning outcomes are valued and measured in higher education.
The speech was also published in The Journal of Lifelong Education produced by the Fujian Association for Lifelong Education for All.
