Literature and Liberal Studies Lecture Series Returns
On Friday, November 20, the annual literature and liberal studies master’s programs lecture series returns as Northwestern University School of Professional Studies Literature Professor Anna Parkinson explores the relationship between emotions and democracy in post-World War II Germany. In the lecture, she'll draw from her new book, An Emotional State: The Politics of Emotion in Postwar West German Culture, to argue against the prevailing notion that the post-war German population was characterized by a lack of emotion, and examine the ways in which emotional norms evolved during US-Allied led attempts at democratization and reeducation of the German population.
This free event is open to the public and will be held at the John Evans Alumni Center on Northwestern’s Evanston campus. The evening kicks off with pre-lecture refreshments at 6 p.m., followed by the lecture at 7 p.m. RSVP here.
