Online Certificate Programs Gain Popularity
The New York Times recently highlighted the growth of online certificate programs in higher education. A quote from SCS associate dean of academics Joel Shapiro noted that online certificates are "part of the unbundling of education that is happening now." Higher ed institutions nationwide are meeting the demand for these types of programs by adding a wide range of new offerings. SCS recently added an online accounting certificate to its post-baccalaureate offerings which feature more than 300 on-campus courses, and plans to offer more business- and finance-oriented online certificates soon. The New York Times article cited numerous other higher education experts who agreed that online certificates offer students great opportunities to add to their skill sets, stay current with best practices and advance to graduate study.
