Advanced Data Science Certificate Program
For students who have completed a Predictive Analytics graduate degree program, this certificate provides a unique and in-depth exploration into the various industry-based applications of their specific skillset. The program offers students the opportunity to pursue concentrations in analytics fields that they were unable to study during their graduate programs, including elective offerings in marketing, risk, web, and text analytics. This also affords students the ability to return to study any of the exciting offerings in the Special Topics electives, which represent our faculty’s forays into cutting-edge aspects of the predictive analytics field.
Prior to applying to this program, students must have completed PREDICT 410 and 411 or possess equivalent knowledge and skills. Please see below for more information:
- PREDICT 410: This course introduces statistical models as they are used in predictive analytics. The course reviews traditional linear and generalized linear models, including multiple regression and logistic regression. It addresses issues of model specification and model selection, as well as best practices in developing models for management. The course also demonstrates the application of multivariate methods in predictive analytics.
- PREDICT 411: Drawing upon examples from economics and business, this course provides an in-depth review of modeling practice. Special attention is paid to linear predictor and error structure specification for time series models. The course reviews econometric methods, including maximum likelihood estimation, two-stage and three-stage least squares, seemingly unrelated regressions, and simultaneous equation estimation. The course shows how to use autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) models in time series forecasting. The course also demonstrates the application of survival/duration analysis in predictive analytics.
To earn a certificate, students must complete any four of the following courses. In some cases, students who have completed equivalent coursework previously may be allowed to replace the required course with another course in the field.
Please note that courses completed in the certificate program cannot be transferred to the corresponding graduate degree.
