Professional Health Careers and Related Programs
Take the courses you need to prepare for a career change to the healthcare field. Professional health careers programs allow college graduates to complete undergraduate science courses to prepare for application to schools of medicine and related professions (dentistry, veterinary medicine, pharmacy, podiatry). Additional concentrations are offered in to prepare students for graduate programs in clinical psychology, nursing, physical therapy, physician assistant, and speech language pathology. These programs are intended for students who have a bachelor's degree but have not completed or have never taken the courses generally required for admission to these schools.
Additonal programs are offered for students who have completed their core pre-health requirements and are looking for additional coursework to help prepare for graduate or professional level study.
Premedicine and Professional Health Careers Programs
Complete the laboratory science courses in biology, chemistry and physics required for application to medical and related professional schools. Designed for career changers without an extensive background in science.
Complete the courses in biology, chemistry and psychology required for application to nursing programs. Designed for career changers without an extensive background in science.
- Preclinical Psychology
Complete the undergraduate psychology courses required for application to graduate programs in clinical psychology.
- Prephysical Therapy
Complete the laboratory science courses in biology, chemistry, physics and statistics required to apply to most physical therapy graduate programs.
- Prephysician Assistant
Complete the laboratory science courses required for application to most physician assistant graduate programs in the Chicago area.
Preparatory Coursework Completion Programs
- Premedicine Completion Program
Students who have completed at least two of the core premedicine science sequences can finish their remaining premedicine coursework in 9-12 months.
- Prespeech Pathology
An online program of courses that aids students in meeting the entrance requirements for the Master of Science in Speech, Language, and Learning at Northwestern University, as well as other speech pathology master’s programs with similar requirements.
