International students must submit the following materials to the Summer Session Office by the deadline above:

  • Registration Form for International Visiting Students
  • You must review and agree to the Change of Registration Policy and the Academic Integrity Policy below before registering.
  • Only check or money order forms of payment are accepted for the non-refundable tuition deposit of $250 per course. Check or money order should be made out to:  Northwestern University. Checks must be drawn on a U.S. Bank in U.S. Dollars. Please include the student’s name on the check or money order.

Summer Session
Northwestern University
405 Church St.
Evanston, IL 60208-4220

What happens next?

You will receive an email notification of your permission to register and instructions on how to request your visa.

You will then contact the Northwestern University International Office to apply for a Form I-20 or Form DS-2019 (for an F-1 or J-1 visa respectively) and submit all financial documents specified in the I-20/DS 2019 Request Form; failure to submit proper documentation delays the visa process. These forms are available on the International Office website. Follow the link to "New Students/Student Visa Information" to access the form.

After your registration form and payment are processed (which may take up to 5 business days), you will receive a paper confirmation. If the courses you have chosen are closed, you will be notified by phone and may choose an alternate course. Please make sure the contact information on your registration form is accurate.

The Office of Student Accounts will issue a bill for the balance due. The Office of Student Accounts does not accept VISA as a form of payment, and students will be charged a 2.75% processing fee for all credit card payments on the balance. If you have questions regarding billing and payments on your balance, please contact the Office of Student Accounts, 555 Clark Street, Evanston, Illinois 60208, phone: 847-491-5224, www.northwestern.edu/sfs.

You are responsible for fulfilling your financial obligations to the University. Students whose University accounts are overdue must pay a late payment fee of $100 and may not be given an academic transcript until all financial obligations are paid in full. The Director of Student Accounts may cancel or prevent the registration of a student whose bills are past due.

Health Insurance

ALL International Students enrolled in Summer Session must purchase the University sponsored health insurance plan from Aetna Student Health. There are NO exceptions to this policy. The cost for the Aetna Plan for Summer Session International students is $923.
