Convocation Ceremony

The School of Professional Studies Convocation Ceremony will take place on Friday, June 16, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Symphony Center. The ceremony is expected to last an hour and a half. Convocation Schedule
Symphony Center doors open for guests at 1:00 p.m.
Graduates arrive by 1:00 p.m.
Procession line up to begin at 1:30 p.m.

Diplomas are mailed to the address listed on the form you submitted to apply for graduation. Please expect to receive your diploma by mail approximately 8 weeks after graduation.

Who is eligible to participate in the School of Professional Studies Convocation Ceremony?
Undergraduate and Graduate students who complete their degree programs during the following quarters may participate:

  • Summer 2016
  • Fall 2016
  • Winter 2017
  • Spring 2017

Convocation Ticket Information

Students will obtain Convocation tickets base on how you ordered your cap & gown.

Option 1: (Only) for students picking up cap & gown on campus.

If you chose to pick up cap & gown order on campus, your Convocation tickets will be included in your cap and gown package.

Your cap & gown package, which will include your Convocation ticket order, must be picked up at the Norris University Center, located on the Evanston campus.  Representatives from Herff Jones (the cap & gown provider), will be waiting inside lobby of the lower level of the Norris Center building with your order on the following dates:

Undergraduate – Tuesday, June 13, 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Graduates – Wednesday, June 14, 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Special circumstances only – Thursday, June 15, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Note: Your cap and gown package will include guest tickets (including any extra tickets requested) and a name card for the Convocation Ceremony. Please remember to bring these items with you on the day of Convocation.

Option 2: (Only) for students who chose to have their cap & gown shipped to them

Beginning Monday, June 12 through Thursday, June 15 students who chose to have their cap & gown shipped, your Convocation tickets must be picked up from the Chicago Symphony Center Box Office. The box office will be open from noon to 6:00 p.m. during the designated days. Please make plans to obtain your tickets prior to Convocation.

The Box Office at the Symphony Center is located at 220 S. Michigan Ave., Chicago, IL 60604.

If you are unable to pick up your tickets during the designated days, you will be able to pick up your Convocation tickets starting at noon on Friday, June 16, 2017. Students are urged to obtain their Convocation tickets before Friday, June 16, 2017.

Please remember to bring tickets and name card with you on the day of Convocation.

Cap and Gown Rentals

Students may rent a cap and gown for use at Commencement and Convocation ceremonies from Herff Jones. This year SPS graduates may choose to have their cap and gown shipped domestically (international shipping is not available). Caps and gowns must not be altered or adorned when worn for the ceremonies. Ordering information is available at All orders must be placed by Friday, May 19, 2017.
