Important Announcement Concerning the NUCPS Police Motorcycle Program
September 27, 2019
Dear NUCPS Community:
The Northwestern University Center for Public Safety and Harley Davidson Motor Company have been partners in providing police motor officer training for over 40 years. Harley Davidson provided the motorcycles and equipment services for students in the training program, while NUCPS developed the curriculum and administered the operation of the program. For the past several months, Harley Davidson and NUCPS have been engaged in the negotiation of a new agreement. Unfortunately, those negotiations were not successful. We regretfully inform you that Harley Davidson has chosen to end their participation in the program effective December 31, 2019, citing a change in the climate at Harley Davidson, which is reflected in new and evolved agreements with strategic partners.
NUCPS owns the curriculum and related materials for the program and the instructors for the program are employed by NUCPS. It is our intent and desire to continue to provide the training program, as we believe the program is of great value to the law enforcement community. We are currently developing an operational transition to a program delivery model that meets the needs of departments with police motorcycle operations in 2020 and beyond. We will keep you informed of our progress.
We are committed to being open and transparent throughout this process. Please feel free to address questions, comments, or concerns to me personally at firstname.lastname@example.org.
