Communication Studies

COMM_ST 395-CN : Special Topics: Culture, Communication, and Contagion

In this course, we will examine how culture and art reflect not only a society’s thought processes and history, but its emotional impact as well. By examining literature, music, film, and additional pieces of art, we will look at what these artifacts communicate about the society and the culture that created them. Then, we will look at how emotions are first represented by the artist and secondly, how these emotions affect an individual, groups, and the public. We will research communication, semantics, art and music theory, as well as psychology to analyze and evaluate how humanity’s intellect and sentiment are influenced by culture.
