Author’s Note: I wrote a family humor column for a regional newspaper and short stories while my children were growing up. I moved to Austin, and began writing historical markers for the Texas Historical Commission, which led to articles about the markers and eventually five nonfiction books about different regions of the state. I began writing a weekly Texas history blog, which grew into my latest non-fiction book. I also wrote two historical fictions about the wave of German immigrants who established the thriving seaport of Indianola on the Texas coast only to have it blown away in 1886. My first historical fiction is a coming-of-age story set in the last years of WWII.
