2025 Osher Institutes National Conference
Celebrating the 2025 Osher Institutes National Conference
The 2025 Osher Institutes National Conference, held April 28–30 in beautiful Chantilly, Virginia, was a fantastic success! With perfect spring weather, an energizing program, and a spirit of collaboration in the air, this year’s conference brought together the best of what the Osher Network has to offer.
More than 260 attendees—including staff and volunteer leaders from nearly all 124 Osher Institutes—gathered for three days of learning, connection, and celebration. Most Institutes were represented by both a staff member and a volunteer leader, highlighting the shared leadership that defines the Osher model. Guests, speakers, and representatives from The Bernard Osher Foundation also joined the experience.
The 2025 Osher Institutes National Conference kicked off with a welcome presentation themed around outdoor adventure, symbolizing the network’s current state and path ahead. A keynote by Mioshi Moses, Vice President of Volunteer Programs at the AARP Foundation, explored the changing landscape of volunteerism among older adults and inspired new strategies for engaging lifelong learners. Attendees chose from 15 breakout sessions on topics such as generative AI, membership growth, marketing, membership retention, and finding sponsorships. The ever-popular “Woo-Hoos” celebrated outstanding achievements from 78 submitting Institutes, sharing successful ideas and innovations. The conference concluded with a forward-looking plenary, where Osher leaders reflected on trends shaping lifelong learning—from the influx of Boomers to the evolution of technology and shifts in higher education. Attendees left the session with new insights and proactive strategies to position their OLLIs for long-term success.
The NRC team thoughtfully built in time during the conference for meaningful connection through regional meetups, peer group discussions, and networking events. Table topic sessions and Idea Jams gave participants the space to share specific challenges and solutions—and many attendees expressed that the chance to hear from others doing similar work was one of the most valuable aspects of the event. The hope is that these conversations and new relationships will continue to grow beyond the conference.
Participants frequently expressed deep appreciation to The Bernard Osher Foundation for fully funding the conference and making this gathering possible. The Foundation’s continued generosity is what allows the Osher community to convene, connect, and continue to thrive.
In short, the 2025 National Conference delivered on every front: relevant content, warm hospitality, new connections, and renewed inspiration. This event, held every 18 months, continues to be a cornerstone experience for those who lead and shape Osher Institutes. The Osher NRC is grateful to everyone who attended—and excited to see how the ideas shared in Chantilly will take root across the country in the months ahead.
