Overview

In a proctored exam, students verify their identity and their actions are observed and/or recorded as they complete the exam. The purpose of proctoring is to ensure academic integrity in SPS programs by discouraging and detecting cheating behaviors during exams. Proctored exams are also a requirement for program accreditation. Accreditation preserves the quality and reputation of our programs and is usually required by employer tuition reimbursement programs. Not all courses will have a proctored exam, but all programs will have some courses which require a proctored exam.

SPS partners with Examity to provide online proctoring services for exams. The Examity platform is integrated with Canvas and simplifies the process of conducting proctored exams. For faculty, Examity allows instructors to manage proctored exam settings and review the results of students' proctoring sessions. For students, Examity is the platform where they schedule and complete proctored exams.

There are online proctoring alternatives for students and faculty who prefer not to use Examity. Each of these require students to confirm their identity and be subject to observation (live or recorded) while they complete the exam, but these alternatives address common concerns related to cost and privacy.
