Summer Session Courses

Visiting Students

Choose from more than 250 courses

Each summer Northwestern University welcomes students and adults over the age of 18 to take advantage of Summer Session's convenient open enrollment and access to more than 250 undergraduate courses, including intensive sequences that enable students to earn a full year of credit in chemistry, physics and a number of foreign languages. Get ahead on credit towards your degree or simply try something new. (Please note: Northwestern does not allow course auditing and Independent Study courses are not available to visiting students.)

Summer Session 2026 runs from Monday, June 22 through August 30, 2026, although there are various session dates for individual courses within Summer Session. Summer courses are flexibly scheduled, ranging from two to ten weeks and taught during the day, evening and on weekends. Please check course listings for specific session dates.

The University reserves the right to cancel classes when necessary, including those for which registration is not sufficient, so please register early. Summer registration for visiting students is open through June 19, 2026, however course cancellations are determined the first week of June, so some courses may no longer be available or may be full by that time. Some science classes may not be available for registration during this final week due to the extra approval steps. (Please see the specific course description for more information.)
