Northwestern University School of Professional Studies (SPS) offers several professional development programs in finance that span areas of accounting, auditing, and finance, including preparatory coursework for the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) exam and Certified Public Accountant exam. Additionally, professionals without a finance background can learn new skills in the Online Fundamentals of Accounting Certificate program.

Certified Financial Planner
Certified financial planner courses at Northwestern University can be taken in person or online and are certified by the CFP Board, an independent organization. If taken concurrently, coursework can be completed in as little as 14 months. Northwestern partners with the Dalton Review® for CFP exam preparation to help students prepare for taking the CFP® Certification Exam.
Certified Public Accountant
A CPA Preparation certificate from Northwestern University meets the requirements for being able to sit for the CPA exam in Illinois and other states. Required coursework covers financial accounting, managerial accounts, auditing principles, income tax, and other related subject areas, along with business courses. All accounting courses are taught by certified CPAs with distinguished professional experience.
Certified Treasury Professional
Northwestern partners with the Association for Financial Professionals to offer the Certified Treasury Professional Certificate (CTP®) program on its Chicago campus during the fall and winter quarters. A CTP certificate is earned over a single, 6-week course available on weekends.
Certified Internal Auditor
Northwestern partners with the Institute of Internal Auditors to provide a three-course Certified Internal Auditor® (CIA) program that prepares students to meet the requirements of the three-part CIA exam.
