Library Media

As a faculty member, you can request the Northwestern Library to make media items, such as films, television programs, music, and other recordings available to the students enrolled in your course. The media you request will be available to students in your Canvas course site.

Process

The process for placing media items on course reserve is the same as requesting an electronic copy of a textbook chapter, journal article or other printed material. The following resources provide detailed instructions:

Copyright

Using the library’s Course Reserve service will ensure that the media you include in your course does not violate copyright laws. The educational fair use criteria for on-ground classes does not always apply when the course is delivered online, or applies in a different way. When preparing course reserve materials, the library staff obtain the necessary permissions and pay any licensing fees to the copyright holder.
