Women in STEM
CHICAGO - On October 24, 2019, Northwestern University School of Professional Studies hosted a lunchtime table talk featuring two Northwestern women who are in STEM-related fields. The panel was led by the School of Professional Studies’s Erin Cable, PhD, who is the Academic & Career Adviser for the school’s professional health certificate programs. Cable led the panelists in conversation about the ways in which their gender and other salient identities have affected their experiences in higher education and STEM industries. The talk was tied to this year’s One Book, One Northwestern selection Hidden Figures: The American Dream and the Untold Story of the Black Women Mathematicians Who Helped Win the Space Race by Margot Lee Shetterly.

That panelist was Ange-Therese Akono, PhD, who is the Louis Berger Junior Professor & Assistant Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Northwestern University. The lecture was part of SPS's Lunchtime Table Talk series, a lecture and Q&A series that highlights the interdisciplinary research and conversation occurring at the School of Professional Studies.
