MHI 402-DL : Introduction to Clinical Thinking
Description
Professionals in the field of health informatics must not only
be skilled in the technological aspects of information science but
also be able to identify health care system transformations and
objectives and their related data requirements to properly align
health informatics development strategies. This is particularly
relevant as the nation’s health care systems evolve in response to
shifts in the focus of health care provision as well as payment
structures. Students will consider the roles of data and
documentation in the organization of health care as a whole and
from an individual provider’s perspective. Weekly clinical
scenarios will provide a framework for the topics to be examined.
Through individual and group work, students will evaluate the
function of data in enabling health care systems to realize the
broadly defined goal of improved health and determine the capacity
of health informatics to advance that goal.
