What do I receive when I complete my coursework?
Students who successfully complete the coursework with a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or above will earn a certificate. The certificate will be noted on the student’s transcript and the student will be mailed a paper certificate noting the completion of their program.
What is the value of this credential?
For students who have not yet earned a bachelor’s degree, the Business Foundations certificate can strengthen their resume with the completion of a rigorous coursework in the foundations of business practices. A certificate from Northwestern University provides evidence of a student’s knowledge, skills, and professional commitment.
Can I continue taking classes at SPS and earn my undergraduate degree after I complete my certificate?
Students admitted into the Business Foundations certificate may apply to an undergraduate degree program at SPS and apply courses from the certificate toward the degree. However, the bachelor’s degree program application must be submitted prior to the completion of the student’s fifth course in the certificate. Students admitted to a degree program will earn both the bachelor’s degree and a business certificate upon completion of their degree requirements.
Students who are interested in applying to an SPS bachelor’s degree program should work closely with their academic adviser and must submit their application to the degree program prior to completing the fifth and final certificate course. Strong performance in certificate courses will have a positive influence on admission decisions.
What would make me a good candidate for this program?
In the statement of purpose, applicants should clearly describe their professional and academic goals and reasons for pursuing the Business Foundations certificate. Students applying to the program should have some relevant professional work experience. Success in previous college coursework is also desirable, but prior coursework is not required.
I already have a bachelor’s degree, but I want to take business courses. Can I apply for this program?
The Business Foundations certificate is specifically for students who have not completed a bachelor’s degree. SPS offers post-baccalaureate certificate programs for students who have already completed an undergraduate degree, including a Business Essentials post-baccalaureate certificate.
