To earn a project management certificate, students must successfully complete the following courses depending on which track of study they choose:
- Applied Project Management Certificate: complete the Core Course (PROJ_PMI 402-0 or PROJ_PMI 402-DL) only
- Essentials of Project Management Certificate: complete the Core Course (PROJ_PMI 401-0 or PROJ_PMI 401-DL) and two Electives
- Certificate in Agile Practices: complete the Core Course (PROJ_PMI 403-0) and two Electives

PROJ_PMI 402-0 : Applied Project Management
Description
This course is designed for project managers / professionals who have at least three years of experience managing projects or teams within larger projects. Through course readings and lecture videos, students will review fundamental concepts, learn standard processes and best practices, and explore advanced techniques. Participants will apply this knowledge to various case studies through discussions, individual activities, and group exercises.
By the end of the course, participants will have reviewed the entire project management process, and explored the core aspects of integration, scope, time, cost, quality, human resources, communication, and risk. This will include an emphasis on determining how to adapt project management processes to meet the needs of the project team, stakeholders, and customers/clients. Leadership, communication, and team-building skills for projects will also be discussed.
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Communicate the value of project management
- Adapt their approach for a predictive, agile, or hybrid environment
- Establish the structure and plan for a successful project
- Assemble, motive, and lead the project team
- Ensure the project scope delivers the expected business value and desired outcome
- Implement the proper mechanisms to prevent, minimize, and respond to risks
- Develop and use various mechanisms to communicate project information
- Ensure the project is completed per the agreed-upon quality standards, budget, and schedule
