PhilosophyPHIL 261-0 : Introduction to Political Philosophy
Description
This course is an introduction to some of the core problems of political philosophy. In the first half of the course, we will study the early modern classics that have shaped our modern understanding of the state, its power, and its relation to civil society.
In the second half of the course, we will study thinkers from the 19th century until our days that have formed various critical conceptions of these classical pictures. We will consider how these critical conceptions form the basis of contemporary contestations over power that inform the changing shape of politics across the world today.
