LATINO 391-0 : Curandera Histories
Description
Grounded in questions of positionality, epistemology, and healing, this course provides a space to grapple with how power discursively shapes knowledge production and the historical record.
With a special focus on Latinx Chicago populations, this course will explore questions of migration, belonging, racism, and political activism. We will interrogate the history of Chicago’s Latinx populations through interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary frameworks. Students will consider how, and under what circumstances, Latinx Chicagoans narrate their community histories, lived experiences, and activist genealogies. The goal of this upper-division seminar is to equip students with the content, skills, and frames to design counter-stories that amplify Latinx Chicago histories.
