Adam Hyde photoJan. 5, 2022 – NUCPS adjunct crash instructor Adam Hyde has joined the staff of NUCPS as the new director of the department’s Traffic Crash Investigation & Safety Engineering division. He has worked with NUCPS since 2012 as an adjunct crash instructor and course developer and will continue to instruct several crash investigation, reconstruction, and CDR courses in his new role.

Hyde is a member of the ACTAR Board of Directors, representing the National Association of Professional Accident Reconstruction Specialists, where he is the organization secretary. Personally, he has accrued more than 1900 hours of crash investigation and reconstruction training. His standing in the field has led to his consulting and expert witness testimony in serious and fatal traffic crash cases. Hyde has worked for 18 years with the Lake County (IL) Major Crash Assistance Team, where he is currently the commander leading a team of more than 60 officers from 37 municipal agencies.

He has a deep personal interest in the current and emerging technologies associated with the crash investigation and reconstruction process and continues to pursue bringing such advancements to the Center. He emphasizes the importance of applying electronic captured data from crashes - EDR, GPS, and cell phone exam data with traditional at-scene investigations to all investigations.

Hyde received his B.A. in Criminal Justice from Columbia College in Missouri. In July 2021, he retired as a sergeant from the Lincolnshire (IL) Police Department, where he served for 21 years.  Hyde is married and has high school and college aged children.  He enjoys brewing beer as a hobby and gardening in his free time.

Please join the NUCPS staff and community in welcoming Adam!
