Description

The aim of this course is into introduce students to Black Studies through developing the thinking skills required to engage with its critical concepts. It organizes this introduction around the idea of critical concepts, which are the challenging ideas that are necessary for understanding the questioning and reconstructive tradition of Black Studies.

The course will discuss the following critical concepts: Slavery and Anti-Slavery; Colonialism and Anti-Colonialism; Race and Racism; Blackness and Anti-Blackness; Abolition and Decolonization; Whiteness and White Sovereignty; Black History; Black Politics; Black Popular Culture.
